STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR WISE ABOUT THE PURCHASE OF WEIRTON STEEL

February 18, 2004

I'm pleased to welcome the International Steel Group to West Virginia as our newest corporate citizen. As the steel sector has been challenged nationally, I see the company's investment in Weirton Steel as a significant show of confidence in the men and women employed there, as well as a positive, long-term endorsement for the future prospects of the company.

In each community ISG has entered, it has been an agent of positive change and has exceeded expectations across the board. The U.S. steel industry continues to go through very tough times. There has been the very real possibility that Weirton Steel would be forced to close and be sold in liquidation. This acquisition by ISG means continued operation and the continued employment of many of our citizens in the Northern Panhandle.
